Discover Florentin's food scene

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

You have probably heard of the amazing food scene in Tel Aviv, but have you heard in particular about the Florentin food scene? This blog post will awaken your senses and ignite your curiosity about this bohemian, vibrant neighborhood with the most interesting food scene in Israel. I had the pleasure of experiencing all that Florentin has to offer with Bitemojo (www.bitemojo.com), an app that offers self-guided food tours in many cities in the world like New York and Berlin. Of course, Tel Aviv couldn't be left out in their itinerary and I experienced one of their four tours in Tel Aviv, which was such a great experience that I had to share it with you!

What made the tour so interesting, is that as a local - thinking I know my city - I actually learned a lot about Florentin. This quirky, bohemian neighborhood in the south of Tel Aviv is known to be among the most famous hipster neighborhoods in the world, in line with Williamsburg in New York and Kreuzberg in Berlin. The neighborhood is famous for its graffiti, vegan culture and the Levinski (spice) market - making Florentin one of the most unique, flavorful, edgy and at the same time authentic neighborhood in Israel.

Everything that makes Florentin so amazing to visit, you find in cafe Levinski 41 (in the pictures around), which is the first stop of Bitemojo's food tour. This little cafe is known for the vintage truck parked in front of it, filled with plants and herbs - making it one of the most photogenic spots in Tel Aviv. They serve the famous Israeli drink 'gazoz', soda mixed with fruit syrup; but they added a twist, lots of fresh fruits and herbs, making it the tastiest drink I've honestly ever had. Trust me, once you've tried it you keep coming back for more!

The food tour takes you through the spice shops of the Levinsky market, which is the most colorful and flavorful market of the city; make sure to have your camera ready! After the amazing gazoz, stop for an authentic bureka, served with spicy tomato sauce, and try Florentin's best fish & chips. Make sure to be hungry, these dishes are delicious AND the portions are huge!

I really loved exploring the little streets of Florentin after the Levinsky market. Florentin is one of the most famous neighborhoods in the world when it comes to street art, and the Bitemojo tour gives a lot of insight in the artists, their messages and legality of the art. And did I mention how Instagrammable this street art is?! You'll see in the pictures below ;)
